The Moderate Citizen #2

Over one and a half years have passed since my last post. What has changed?

Interest has skyrocketed, gas prices have soared, every day grocery prices continue to increase, and yet, where is the vocal frustration? Personally, I continue to express my frustration on a daily basis to my significant other. Yet, there appears to be a remarkable silence on what is communicated between family and friends. Why are we unable to discuss these issues?

There appears to be a clear divide; the wealthy v. Americans pay check to pay check. How do the wealthy survive? They continue to invest when the market drops. How do those pay check to pay check continue to survive? Credit card debt. As we watch interest rates grow, its clear who will lose in the long run. The divide continues to grown.

Personally, I also continue to face pragmatic financial decisions more frequently (for example, can I go out with a buddy for drinks or should I save the money for diapers). Can I take an extra day off and use my PTO. Should I save it in case I am laid off? Yes, we all know inflation is real. Yet, where is the frustration? How serious is it? My budget has certainly been impacted; my emergency savings continues to shrink on a month to month basis. This is real.

Yet, what are the the issues being presented to us? What is emphasized as being important? The 2020 BLM riots? The 2020 Capitol riots? That is history; we must examine the issues we face today. What is impacting you?

November 8, 2022. Election Day. I can only hope individuals vote not on perception or political sway, but on real impact. I certainly am. In the end…

Be Nice.

Moderately frustrated?  So am I.

We live in a world of mass information, mass communication, and mass conformity. We are driven by emotions, feelings, and manipulation. To communicate means to sensationalize, pick a side, and stand your ground. What happened to simplicity, listening, and understanding? What happened to laughing over our differences, moving on, and having a drink?

Unfortunately, I am frustrated with our inability to communicate rationally while minimizing emotion.  We are ultimately creatures of emotion and habit; modern media and social media understand this principle. Algorithms and patterns capitalize on these two idea to profit.  Viewer numbers and sensationalism have replaced fact production.

Democrat or Republican, does it really matter? Do you honestly identify with either party?

I write this blog not to generate views but to generate awareness. I am a 30s-year-old male, frustrated about the direction of society, frustrated about sensationalism.

Take the time, whether it’s with family, friends, or independently.  Pause, react, and calmly decide the next course of action.

I do not profess to say I follow the above principles. However, I remind myself everyday that moderation is key: moderation in consumption and moderation in emotion. In the end…

Be Nice.
